details of death
During World War I (1914‐1918) evacuated — during withdrawal of c. 3 mln Russians after defeat with German–Austrian forces at battle of Gorlice in 05.1915 — deep into Russia.
Ministered among Polish emigrees, in Odessa (1917‐1918) among others.
To his homeland returned in 07.1918, after the Bolshevik revolution in Russia and the German–Austro–Hungarian–Russian peace treaty in Brest on 03.03.1918.
On 02‐06.08.1920, during the Polish–Russian war of 1919–21 and the Russian invasion of Poland in 1920, a several–day battle for the Ostrołęka took place near city.
The Poles lost it and on 06.08.1920, Ostrołęka and its vicinity were taken over by the Russians.
On 20.08.1920, right before panic Russian retreat following Russian defeat at the battle of Warsaw on 15.08.1920 (in battle known as „Vistula river miracle”), Russians summoned him — and his vicar, Fr Louis Zatryb — to the command centre in Ostrołęka.
There Russians arrested them.
Announced that they would be tried in Łomża.
Thus they were rushed — together with a group of Ostrołęka teachers and judges — towards Łomża.
There however they did not stop but were rushed further towards Szczuczyn.
Just before Szczuczyn, between the villages of Stowane and Obrytki, he was pulled out of the prisoners' column, and dragged along the ground into a roadside forest belonging to the village of Wojsławy, where he was stabbed to death with bayonets by the Russians.
Fr Zatryb survived.

descriptions
Polish‐Russian war of 1919‐1921: War for independence of Poland and its borders. Poland regained independence in 1918 but had to fight for its borders with former imperial powers, in particular Russia. Russia planned to incite Bolshevik‐like revolutions in the Western Europe and thus invaded Poland. Russian invaders were defeated in 08.1920 in a battle called Warsaw battle („Vistula river miracle”, one of the 10 most important battles in history, according to some historians). Thanks to this victory Poland recaptured part of the lands lost during partitions of Poland in XVIII century, and Europe was saved from the genocidal Communism.
