details of death
After the overthrow of tsarism in Russia in 02.1917, remained a royalist, praying publicly for a quick election of a new ruler.
After the Bolshevik coup in 11.1917 and the issuance of a decree on the separation of the state and the Church — which meant taking over a large part of the property of the Russian Orthodox Church — the Bolshevik militia attempted on 08.01.1918 to enter the monastery in Belgorod.
On 25.01.1918, issued a special appeal to the faithful, in which asked for personal involvement in defending Church property against confiscation (i.e. state robbery) and vandalism, and excommunicated all those who attacked the Church.
On 26.04.1918, after a search carried out in his apartment by the Bolsheviks ten days earlier, during a procession in Perm made another proclamation, calling on the faithful to defend the Church and again excommunicating the Bolsheviks.
Ordered that if he himself were arrested, all public prayers, except baptism and funeral ceremonies, were to cease.
On 17.06.1918, arrested by the Bolsheviks.
The Perm clergy suspended services.
Three days later, officers of the genocidal Russian Cheka organization dragged him beyond the borders of Perm, forced him to dig a pit and lie down in it. Was told that if did not revoke the anti–Bolshevik provisions, would be buried alive.
Refused, and then the murderers actually covered him with earth.
While throwing the clods, they fired several pistol shots at him.
Immediately after the murder, the clergy began to hold services again…
