On 17.12.1920 as a result of Kaunas accord the parish found itself within so‐called neutral belt — in practice a demilitarized zone — between Republic of Central Lithuania set up as a result of mutiny of Polish Gen. Żeligowski, and Kaunas Republic of Lithuania.
Only police forces were allowed to operate in the neutral zone, but soon various Lithuanian bands started their activities and Poles initiated and intense propaganda campaign — expecting a plebiscite to decide the final fate of the zone.
According to Lithuanian sources priest „accidentally” burnt two Polish flags from 1963 Polish insergency against Russians.
On 16.03.1921 while returning from the‐then Central Lithuanian capital Vilnius where went on parish business apprehended by Polish gendarmes in Jauniūnai n. Maišiagala, right before or already within the neutral zone.
