Died from electrocution in the bathtub.

Due to the suspicious circumstances of his death, „by the resolution of 1st August 2011, an investigation was initiated S.44/11/Zk into the communist crime that took place on 23rd August 1979 in Konin, consisting in the murder of Father Zdislav Różański, vicar of the local Bl.  Maximilian Kolbe parish, by unidentified officers of the Security Service”.

On 16.07.2024 Miroslav Więckowiak, prosecutor at the Institute of National Remembrance IPN stated: „From the documentation obtained from the IPN Archives in Poznań concerning Father Zdislav Różański, it is clear that he was — like all priests in Poland at that time — in the typical interest of the Security Service, was spied up by secret collaborators, various conversations were held with him — ending in failure — aimed at recruiting him as a secret collaborator of [the criminal Commie‐Nazi organization] SB.

The evidence collected during the investigation did not provide an unequivocal and unambiguous basis for stating that Fr Zbigniew [sic!] Różański was murdered and that was the victim of a crime. The circumstances of his death — electrocution in a bathtub — were not challenged as a result of the investigation. Therefore, the investigation was discontinued due to the lack of data sufficiently justifying the suspicion of committing a crime (Art. 17§1 item 1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure).”
