details of death

After the Bolshevik coup in Russia in 11.1917; after the Treaty of Brest‐Litovsk of 09.02.1918, by which the one side belligerents of the World War I, Central Powers (Germany and Austria–Hungary), de facto recognized the existence of the Ukrainian People's Republic UPR; after another separatist Treaty of Brest‐Litovsk of 03.03.1918, by which, among others, Bolshevik Russia recognized the existence of the UPR; at the beginning of 1919 its parish Bohuslav — a former city of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, in the Kiev region — was under the control of the UPR, under the authority of the Ukr. Директорія (Eng. Directoriat). At the end of 1918, however, Bolshevik Russia, after the fall of one of the parties to both Brest Treaties, i.e. the Central Powers, which had lost World War I, declared the treaties null and void and began the invasion of Ukraine. As a result, in 1919 power in Bohuslav changed hands several times. And so, in the spring, the Bolsheviks took power. In 04.1919, during the Medvinsky rebellion, the Bolsheviks were thrown out of the city by the rebel Cossack units of Danilo Terpilo — i.e. ataman Zeleny — who recognized the authority of the UPR. However, at the beginning of 06.1919, the Bolsheviks returned to the city. In 09.1919, Russian counter–revolutionary units under the command of General Anton Denikin entered the city. A Bolshevik partisan unit began operating around the city, which contributed to another takeover of power in Bohuslav on 29.12.1919 by Bolsheviks. According to sources, during one of the occupations of the Russian Bolsheviks, was detained and severely beaten in prison.

Released, prob. during another change of power.

Moved then, prob., 130 km to the west, to the parish of Zoziv near Vinnytsia. There, lived to see the Polish so‐called Kiev Expedition, during the Polish–Russian War of 1919‐1921, and the temporary expulsion of the Bolsheviks — prob. by the 45th Borderland Riflemen Infantry Regiment, part of the 13th Army.

When, in early 06.1920, the retreat began in the face of the Russian offensive, left the parish with the Polish troops and went to the center of Poland.

At some point, joined the Polish Army, becoming its chaplain. Ministered i.a. in Ostrówek‐Twierdza.

Perished in hospital, never having recovered from the injuries sustained in a Russian prison.

alt. details of death

According to some sources, freed from a Russian prison by Polish soldiers from Gen. Haller's units.

Such a hypothesis seems unlikely, because the troops commanded by Gen. Haller did not reach Kiev, fighting rather on the Western Front.

descriptions

Polish‐Russian war of 1919‐1921: War for independence of Poland and its borders. Poland regained independence in 1918 but had to fight for its borders with former imperial powers, in particular Russia. Russia planned to incite Bolshevik‐like revolutions in the Western Europe and thus invaded Poland. Russian invaders were defeated in 08.1920 in a battle called Warsaw battle („Vistula river miracle”, one of the 10 most important battles in history, according to some historians). Thanks to this victory Poland recaptured part of the lands lost during partitions of Poland in XVIII century, and Europe was saved from the genocidal Communism.
