Leżajsk

1993 May, Horodenka — Polish translation of Wira Kyszakewicz's memoirs about Leżajsk in January and February 1945:
On the road to Jarosław, refugees found the body of another Ukrainian — Pustelny. It was said that the bandits killed Pustelny and his wife in front of several children who begged the killers to forgive their parents, and after the parents were murdered, asked to shoot them as well, but the bandits left them alive. During those two months, 100–150 Ukrainians died in Leżajsk”.

Leżajsk

Excerpt from Ivan Bidny's account of the murders of Ukrainians in Leżajsk by members of the NZW:
At the beginning of 1945, Polish gangs were murdering Ukrainians in Leżajsk. The first victim was Emilian Wańczyk from Siedlanka. After a few days, more murders followed. Two Słabe sisters, Łew Kyszakewycz, and his wife and housekeeper were martyred. Hajduk was murdered on the bridge in front of his house. Olha Wańczycka died on the road near Dębno: they pulled her out of the wagon and shot her on the spot. After a few days, a similar fate befell her husband, Ivan Wańczycki. The old Hajduków, the lawyer's wife Maria Gielecińska and her 13‑year‑old daughter Raś died from bullets by Polish bandits. The Polish bandits tormented this woman in a terrible way for hours. The execution was carried out by Kazimierz Stocki with Więcław Śląski. At night the bandits took them to the so–called monastery forest, they raped the mother, and the child tied to the tree had to look at this act. Then they did the same with their underage daughter. Hamiec died with his son and the mother of Ataman at the hands of the same gang”.

Ukrainian youth were cruelly dealt with, who were recruited to work in Germany and were now returning to their native villages — Cieplice, Kuryłówki. The bandits tied up the arms and legs of boys and girls with barbed wire and threw them into the San.
In January, two boys — Roman Hajduk and Łewka Wania — were killed. Their bodies were found on the bank of the San River

between/on the road between

Wierzawice

1993 May, Horodenka — Polish translation of Wira Kyszakewicz's memoirs about Leżajsk in January and February 1945:
The next day, or maybe later, in the German Doły between Leżajsk and Wierzawice, the inhabitants of Leżajsk were murdered: Wołodymyr Kyszakewicz (Lew's brother) with his wife and Olga Struc (Wańczyk). These Ukrainians fled to Dębno, they were taking their property on a cart. Wiśka Chamiec, a resident of Leżajsk, was walking from Leżajsk to Dębno and met her neighbor, Wołodymyr Kyszakiewicz, a Pole, Owsik, with a bloodied knife. Owsik asked her where she was coming from, and she replied that she was from Wierzawice. She understood that the real answer could cost her her life. Owsik did not attack her and continued on to Leżajsk. After some time, Wiśka Chamiec came across a wagon and the dead Kyszakiewiczs and Olga Struc.
Poles such as Diduch, Szpilka, and Antek Kiełbowicz, who either belonged to bands or were their agents, were not very famous.
The husband of the aforementioned Olga Struc, Iwan Struc, also died as a martyr. The bandits caught him on ul. Pieracki, tied it to a horse's tail and drove the horse to Wierzawice, to the San River

Leżajsk

May 1993, Horodenka — Polish translation of Wira Kyszakewicz's memoirs about Leżajsk in January and February 1945:
After the front had passed  […] , Polish nationalists directed their attack on the Ukrainian minority in the city. At that time, 6% of living in Leżajsk were Ukrainians  […] . During the night, from 5 to 6 February, Milcia Kyszakewycz, Lew Kyszakewycz and their maid, living at ul. Szaszkiewicz (Pieracki). The same killers used to visit Włodzimierz Kyszakewycz, but they did not get to his house. They also came to our yard, to Podolszyny. The yard was fenced, the gate was closed, and my parents milked a cow in the barn. Through the window I saw five men come to our gate, the dog began to bark loudly. The bandits could not open the gate and went on. Through the open window I heard someone say:
— «It's nothing, it will be for dinner».
The bandits went to the Federkiewicz family, who lived on the same street, not far from us, and threw a grenade at their house. One woman died from the blast. Her son was not at home and thus he survived. On the same day, the sisters Hela and Stefę Słabe were killed. That night they were still with my uncle, Leon Kyszakewycz, who lived on ul. Opaliński with his wife and two children. Polish neighbors played cards at my uncle's house until the daylight. When they wanted to leave the house, they could not, because the door was blocked  […] It's hard to say whether it was a coincidence, or whether the Polish neighbors had any sense and consciously wanted to save their uncle's family.
The authorities did not allow the joint funeral of the victims, only one coffin was allowed to be taken out of the church. It was also a mistreatment of the living. Later victims were buried without a priest, Yuri Kikta, who had to go into hiding. It happened that the priest spent several days in the cellars without food. He was once saved from inevitable death by a Pole, a carpenter who carried out various orders for the church. The priest escaped from the chase, burst into the workshop and hid behind the door, because there was no other option. The persecutors asked the carpenter if they had seen the priest, but he replied that the priest went on and pointed with his hand some direction.

Leżajsk

1993 May, Horodenka — Polish translation of Wira Kyszakewicz's memoirs about Leżajsk in January and February 1945:
On February 7‑8, the attorney's widow, Mrs. Gelecińska, together with her 12‑year‑old daughter, Rasia, was tortured. Gelecińska knew 10 foreign languages and worked as a translator at the Garrison Command in Leżajsk  […] The bandits took her and her daughter to the forest, both raped and later murdered them. The victims had broken arms and legs. The massacred bodies made a terrible impression on the inhabitants of Leżajsk.
No less barbaric was the murder in the house of the Dziedziński family, Warwara Patryło, mother of seven children — in front of the three youngest. The older ones stayed overnight in a railway booth. In the morning the husband did not bury his wife, but took all the children and went to Sądowa Wisznia. Warwara Patryło was buried somewhere in the corner of the cemetery, where they are dumping rubbish. '
