general info

Janowica

Fragment of the report of the interrogation of Tadeusz Kałużny, a resident of Janowice about the murder of a Ukrainian named Usiduska:
In the month of May 1945, one day in the evening, Lipczak Marian came to my apartment in Janowica, dressed in a Polish military uniform, armed with a rifle, and told me to take a spade with me and go with him, why, he did not say  […] We walked half a kilometer to the east, where among the bushes I noticed a woman lying on the ground, and two individuals, whom I did not recognize, because they were hiding their faces in a cloak, were harassing over her, kicking her with my feet. We stood for about 10 minutes with a certain Kurępa Jan from Janowica, who was also called by Lipczak, and we knew, like all three individuals, because Lipczak and Lipczak joined them, kicking a woman lying on the ground. After perhaps 10 minutes of bullying this woman, the bandits ordered her to stand up and march forward. The woman walked first, followed by Lipczak and the two others, whom I do not know  […] We stood there as Lipczak told us, and the bandits with this woman walked away maybe 100 meters, later we heard two shots by one of the bandits called us. When we went to them, we saw a woman lying on the ground, motionless. Lipczak ordered us to dig a hole  […] After a few days we learned from people that a certain Usiduska from Siedliszcze was murdered  […] she might have been around 40”.
