At the end of the German occupation — the seat of the deanery, Dynów, the Russians captured on July 28, 1944, and therefore about 2 weeks after the described event — killed by a member of the Polish independence Home Army AK (part of the Polish Underground State), under the verdict of the underground court of the Polish Underground State, for cooperation with the German occupier and Ukrainian nationalists from the genocidal OUN–UPA organization and inciting local Ruthenians (Ukrainians) to murder Poles.
When he was returning in a wagon from Dynów, a man–partisan rode up to him on a bicycle and fired two revolver shots at him.

Polish translation of the information by Fyłyp T. Wasylowski about the murder of Ukrainians in the village of Łubno included in the collection „Jarosław and Beyond the San region” from 1986:
„An ideological pastor, priest Iwan Hajduk, was also killed by the bullets of Polish bandits. Because of his national conscious activities the Apostolic Curia of the Lemko Administration transferred him from one parish to another. He was killed near Żurawiec, near the village of Karolówka”.
