general info

Eulau

A Ukrainian murdered the Miska family of 6.
«The dismembered bodies were floating in blood in the cellar. Gouged out eyes. To one of the women, the torturer inflicted more than forty stab wounds. The scale of the degeneration could shock even people familiar with the cruelty of the war» — said the militia MO officer Czesław Kowalczyk. Another of the policemen had blood in his shoe. No wonder that over the course of several decades, the crime scene gained the dark name of the 'red basement'. And the conviction that it had nationalistic character, that the displaced Ukrainian nationalists must have been involved in it because of the scale of the cruelty  […]
Czesław Kowalczyk noted that the Misków body was lying next to the entrance. The bodies of their four children, on the other hand, were piled deep in the room. Their parents' hands were tied, their torsos bore the marks of numerous knife blows, they were covered with bruises, and the bloody epidermis under the fingernails of the dead testified that they had fought with the murderer. The eldest daughter of Miska has just received the most blows — as many as 41. The attacker also gouged out her left eye
”…
According to the findings of the investigation from over 70 years ago, the brutal crime took place on the night of July 20–21, 1946 in Szprotawa–Iława (Sowiny), on the outskirts of Szprotawa, in a house at 6 Polna Street [other versions mention no 4]. The Miśkas family of 6, Stanisław and Anna and their children: Bonifacy (21), Łucja (18), Stanisława (12) and Władysław (4) were murdered. Their bodies were found on the morning of July 21, 1946 in the basement where they lived. In the course of the investigation, four people were arrested: 3 civilians and a policeman from the District MO Headquarters in Szprotawa, Stefan Troszczenko. After being arrested, Troszczenko was sent to a prison in Wrocław, where one of the prisoners recognized him as Stefan Loch — a Ukrainian nationalist he knew, who during World War II belonged to the collaborative Waffen–SS Galizien formation.
After the war, he found his way to Central area on Odra river banks. He served as a policeman in Szprotawa and fell in love with Łucja Miskówno. We already know the rest. — «Now we are half a step away from knowing the whole truth» — concludes Boryna. But more questions arise. Why is a man with such a record, and in addition guilty of a bloody crime in Szprotawa, released after a short time? How it's possible? Did he collaborate and did he have any key information? Why was he answerable to a civil court as a war criminal and policeman? Did the Misków and the killer know each other before they lived in Szprotawa? Did they know anything about the murderer's past and that was the real reason for the death of the whole family?
