Nowotaniec
In the village of Nowotaniec, poviat Sanok, [the Ukrainians] burned down the village and murdered several Poles. „Arsonists, taking advantage of this confusion and terror, robbed whatever they could, even taking off the shoes of the dead, taking cattle and various things. Only the presbytery, school and two private houses remained intact in Nowotaniec. The school was saved thanks to the then headmaster Tadeusz Leja, who managed to extinguish the burning floors in the school apartment, which caused his hands to burn. And in saving the presbytery, the pastor at the time, Fr Józef Kruczek, who put out the burning presbytery”.
