Zwiniacz

The UPA murdered one Pole: they cut off her breasts, cut off the head of „and dragged the carcass behind the sleigh through the village shouting that «was calling her son and the synok would not help – where is he? we want him»; the son was drafted into the army”.

I just don't know what to say in this context to my Father (born in 1926), whose mother on December 23, 1944. in Zwiniacz (Czortków county, Tarnopol voivodeship), UPA partisans killed. They chopped off the head, cut off the breasts and dragged the carcass behind the sledge through the village shouting that „called her son, and the synok would not help – where is he, we want him” (he was in the army) – that's a lot of Polish fates. Grandma's cousin married a Ukrainian who was the deputy head of the UPA in that region (they were the heads of Stah and Hryn) – she was afraid to even think in Polish. My father, when he came to his home in 1956. He received the most kindness from a Ukrainian, a lawyer by education, secretary Semen Petliura (in the 1920s), a Ukrainian patriot, a righteous and just man. From her, Dad learned the whole truth about his mother's death. Mrs.… (I better not give her data) distanced herself firmly from the feral OUN and UPA. I just don't know how to talk to the Father about the attitude of the President and Prime Minister (but also many bishops in the past and now) on the anniversary of Volhynia. That there were also no advisers who would remind them that to paraphrase Słonimski – If you don't know how to behave, behave decently. Naturally – just in case. But – who would listen to an old Jew. Best regards. HOHENTVIEL 14.07.2008. But – who would listen to an old Jew. Best regards. HOHENTVIEL 14.07.2008. But – who would listen to an old Jew. Best regards. HOHENTVIEL 14.07.2008.
