Janina Pit née Pittner: „My father was a forester […] . On that tragic day […] we were still sitting in the apartment with my father. It was already getting dark […] We went out (to hide) with the whole family. Only our maid with my child, a young Ukrainian woman, who we treated as a family member, remained in the forester's lodge […] In a moment (someone) started knocking hard on the door […] Daddy then said: «run away, I will only take the rifle». We all ran out the back door into the yard together […] . The Banderites found their father in the stable. The father told them that the child was his granddaughter, not knowing that Marysia (Ukrainian servant – editor's note) told the Bandera followers that it was hers. They took a rifle, a watch and money from my father. The girl's pleas and pleas to leave the child alone were of no avail. They told my father to take off his jacket, sweatshirt and shoes. They made him lie facedown and shot him several times in the back of the head […] They took the child from Marysia and ordered her to run away. They killed the child with butts, it was 22 months old. I ran away to the apartment of our Ukrainian neighbor, a local blacksmith […] His daughter, my friend […] after a while she burst into the apartment and shouted: «Janka run away, because they are going to our house». I left, but I didn't have the strength to run any further and I didn't know where to run. I sat by the wall of the blacksmith's house from the garden side, and so invisible I took a nap almost all night […] . From a distance I could see our house and the forester's house where Jasio Słoma and his wife lived. When it got quite light outside, I came out of hiding […] all those who were in the forester's lodge at that time were murdered. a total of 13 people and my child. They were found in the basement. They were stabbed with bayonets. I was walking with one German policeman, we found Jasiek Słoma under the fence, he had 15 stab wounds in his back […] . His wife had 6 stab wounds and was lying in the kitchen. My father's charred corpse lay near the wreckage of the barn, and my child half–burned near the wreckage of the house. all the murdered were buried by a German company (the owner of the forests) at their own expense […] . I found a trunk hidden in the basement with my things, a black dress, shoes and other things that I took with me to Borysław. I lived there for 6 months. Then I moved to the vicinity of Tarnów, where I worked. at the end of 1944, I was taken to work in Germany […] There I met my future husband of Dutch nationality and in March 1945 we got married. after the war, my husband and I left for the Netherlands and I stayed here forever”. Janina Pit née Pittner. Rotterdam, Netherlands, 1949.
