Zatwarnica

The Upowcy murdered 8 Poles (the Domański and Marszałek families) and 1 Ukrainian. Wikipedia states: „On August 13, 1944, a UPA unit struck the police station in Zatwarnica for the first time. On November 13, 1944, the UPA sotnya murdered eight Poles and hanged one Ukrainian accused of «betraying the Ukrainian nation». In 1946, the village was completely burnt down by the Bira sotnya”.

And: „The first UPA attack on him took place in November 1944. Stanisław Śliwa, the commandant of the police station, was killed then. Other militiamen were killed nearby. In 1974, in the area adjacent to the cemetery, a commemorative obelisk with the names of the killed policemen was erected. They were Stanisław Śliwa (s. Piotr), Stanisław Śliwa (s. Marcin), Franciszek Borgosz, Jan Maciejewski, Mieczysław Radwański and Józef Leszczyszyn. The obelisk was founded on the 30th anniversary of the founding of MO and SB. As there is an inscription on the obelisk that the above mentioned people died during the consolidation of the people's power, an order was issued in 2019 to remove the obelisk (the Decommunization Act). Probably the inscription will be changed and the obelisk and names will remain, unless the intention is, inter alia, cover–up of the crimes of Ukrainian nationalists”.
