Following the persuasion of the Ukrainians, the Poles in three groups returned to the village to harvest and these groups murdered at least 30 Poles: the first group was slaughtered by knives in the barn, the second group was shot with machine guns in the field, the third group was also murdered in the field. Anna Czekaj: „From my grandmother Leokadia Stanik née Kasiuba: On August 10, 1943, my grandmother's godmother, Antonina Marciniuk, was returning home from Szumsk and on the way she was caught by the Bandera followers and, along with other captured Poles, was chased to a barn. Her tongue had been cut off. They were all stabbed with knives and burned together in this barn. My great–grandfather was with the children in Szumsk and thanks to my grandmother they returned to the village late (my grandmother went with her friend and came back late, and her father was waiting for her). The great–grandmother stayed at home, but she was warned by the neighbors and hid in the orchard behind the house (her husband made a hideout in the orchard)”.
