„March 1945 During the raid in Zaleska Wola, the Polish police found a hiding place where a conscious Ukrainian shot himself, so as not to surrender himself alive to the enemy. The farmer, where the hiding place was, was also shot by the police”.

Easter 1945 was approaching. It could not be cheerful with us. People knew about the murders committed by the 'Wołyniak' gang in Piskorowice, Dobcza and Dobra. Recently, we heard about the terrible murders in Bobrówka, Laszki and Miękisz Stary, where on a farm, a gang cut off people's tongues and ears, gouged out their eyes, raped women, and then cut off their breasts to finally finish off the living dead. People from neighboring villages were also brought to this farm  […]
In the very morning [on Easter Saturday in 1945] shots were fired between Mełechy and Kopań forests, then alarm bells were heard throughout the village. People started to flee east. [Self–defense commander 'Bajda' immediately gave the order to prepare to attack the Poles. It was evident that the Poles were already in the village, probably entering the forest from the west, rather than on the road, thanks to which they bypassed all our stands. There was fire on the houses  […] After [the fight and] the area ('kushch') returned to the village, we learned that the Poles had murdered five small children and five women. It happened in the house of the Mełechs, where a woman with two children died, and in the other Mełechów — a young woman with two children died there. In Mykola Melech's house, his wife was shot on the stove, daughter‑in‑law on the courtyard, her daughter on the bed, all were busy with their work. The Poles badly injured Kateryna Szczurko, known as Onyszczaczka, who came from Młyny. She was breastfeeding a child when the bullet passed the child's armpit below the belly and the mother's breasts. Her older daughter was asleep in bed when a bullet pierced her arm, inflicting a rather severe wound. Excerpt from Kateryna Koreń's memoirs about the murders of Ukrainians in Zaleska Wola by the armed formations of the Republic of Poland:
„After the German occupation, Poles, for their part, did not spare people, they beat, robbed, looked for Banderites in chambers and boxes, and during each raid there were casualties. On Easter, on Easter Saturday, a Polish manhunt raided from the Nywy forest, killing women in homes and yards. They threw away the passover prepared for the celebration. Kateryna Illasz was holding the child in her arms — the mother was killed, and the child, the boy, the older brother, hidden under the bed, pulled in and saved him. They both survived.
The next time, Ivan Hadewycz, Charysz, Chromy were murdered. Yet another Iwaś Bohun and a boy from the underground 'Maj'. I do not remember all of them, but this «Polish nation without blemish chosen by God» spared no one”.
