Zadwórze

In May 1945, Olijnyk and Moroz, along with other militia bandits, were in the vicinity of the village of Zadwórze, on the Krasne–Lwów railway line. at that time, the captain of the Soviet army, Borys Wierchopietrowski, with the electromechanic Eugeniusz Machowski and his daughter Maria, came from Lviv. all of them stayed with the host Kalina. Kupiak found out about this fact and together with Olijnyk, Moroz and other bandits he entered Kalina's cottage to arrest the visitors from Lviv. In the cottage they disarmed Wierchopietrowski, and Pociłujko arrested Machowski with other bandits. They both took them to one of the abandoned farms in that village. In the empty hut, Kupiak and Olijnyk brutally beat the captain, stripped him down to his underwear and hanged him. They took Machowski to the barn, where Pociłujko shot him. at that time, Machowski's daughter was in the garden picking flowers. With a bouquet of flowers, she returned to Kalina's cottage. Here the bandits grabbed her and led her to the hut where the captain hung. They took off their clothes and hanged them next to the first victim  […] In May 1945, Kupiak's gang also arrested Maria Kaszczak in the village of Zadwórze. after the interrogation, Kupiak signaled to Olijnyk to murder her. Olijnyk threw a leather loop on the victim, the end of which he threw over his back and pulled it up so that the victim hung on the loop. He held it for a while and threw it to the ground. Because it showed signs of life, other bandits killed her and threw her into the river. Testimony of the witness Tomczyszyn: „One day in the village of Zadwórze I saw a Kupiak whom I knew well. There were three other bandits in his company, who were leading Maria Kaszczak, a resident of our village. The bandits took her somewhere and after a few days her body was found in the river. It had beating marks and loop marks around the neck. Everyone in our village was very afraid of Kupiak, because they knew that only corpses and burned” buildings remained. Testimony of the accused Olijnyk: „Dymitr Kupiak signaled me to choke her, at that moment I was standing behind her. Czuczman, «Kruk» gave me a leather loop, which he always carried with him to strangle people with it. at the back, I threw the loop around Maria Kaszczak's neck, I threw the end of the loop over my back and pulled it up to tear the victim off the ground. I held Maria's body in this position for a few moments and when I felt that she was not showing any signs of life, I threw on the ground”.
