The UPA murdered 32 Poles and 4 of the abductees went missing without a trace. „Selected people were bound and thrown alive into the fire, some had their veins 'humanely' cut first”.

source: Żurek Stanisław, „Calendar of the genocide – July 1946”; in: portal: Volhynia — web page: wolyn.org [accessible: 2022.02.24]

At c. 24:00 UPA units attacked Wołkowyja. A corps of Border Protection Forces was stationed in the village and a militia MO Post was located. In addition, many inhabitants of the neighboring villages, previously attacked by Ukrainian nationalists, were staying here. Two groups attacked the facilities occupied by the army and the militia, while the third began to burn houses and kill residents of Polish nationality. Franciszek P., Franciszek W., Stanisław F., Józef S., Jan P., Józef M., Michał F., Aleksandra Sz., Franciszek Sz., an officer of the Polish Army named I. and one soldier died from the bullets. With particular cruelty, the perpetrators killed: Stefania P. — by stabbing with a bayonet, Aleksander W. — a heart cut out with a knife, skin pulled from the wrists, Antoni P. — piercing his face with a bayonet, Franciszek J. — a punch to the temple and slitting the throat with a knife. Three soldiers who had not been identified by their first and last names were seriously injured. Ukrainian nationalists tried to kill Ludwik W. and a man named K., but they managed to escape due to a misfeed of arms. During the the battles lasting till 15:00, the perpetrators burnt about 80 residential and farm buildings along with the property belonging to the Polish population. The investigation was discontinued on August 27, 2007 due to the failure to identify the perpetrators of the act”.

source: Żurek Stanisław, „Calendar of the genocide – July 1946”; in: portal: Volhynia — web page: wolyn.org [accessible: 2022.02.24]

On the night of July 14/15, 1946, the 'Rena' UPA unit (kuren) concentrated his forces around Wołkowyja in order to liquidate the Polish Border Security WOP grouping. At 0.30 at night, an attack was made on the village combined with an attack on the WOP watchtower simultaneously from several sides, from Terka, Zawóz, Polańczyk and Górzanka. After the first unsuccessful assault, the others followed, with remarkable ferocity. The attackers tried to split the crew into two parts. At the same time, a SB special militia of UPA set the village on fire and started murdering the Polish population. Selected Poles were tied up and thrown alive into burning buildings, and some — before throwing into the fire — had throats 'humanely' slit. At that time, 32 people were murdered in such a cruel manner. At c. 4.30, the defending watchtower repelled the last attack. Two soldiers (a Russian officer and a policeman) were killed in the watchtower then, and 6 were wounded. While retreating, the UPA kidnapped 15 civilians into the forest and no trace of them has ever been seen. It is not known to this day where and what death they died. The attackers then burned 27 Polish houses in the village. After the unsuccessful attack, they lurked nearby, preparing an ambush for a possible chase. In fact, a battle group was dispatched from the watchtower to pursue the attackers. Before entering the ambush, the soldiers were saved by a dog accompanying them, which sensed a gang in the forest and warned them. The raiders withdrew back to the garrison in a hurry”.
