general info

Wolica Komarowa

In Wolica Komarowa, the family of Katarzyna and Karol Kawulek lived peacefully until the spring of 1944. They earned their living by working on a farm, which they ran together with their parents. In addition, Charles was a carpenter and carpenter. They lived in a large house with Karol's brother and his family. There were many mixed families in Wolica – also Karol's brother Stefan Kawulka married a Ukrainian woman, creating a loving and harmonious marriage. All this ended in the spring of 1944, when Karol Kawulka, together with his father and neighbor, went to a neighboring village to visit a mill owned by a Ukrainian. After the day of waiting, when dusk came, they were captured and dragged to the river, where they were ordered to undress. Seeing what was going to happen, Karol's father shouted to his son to save himself by jumping into the water. Charles threw himself into the river and swam under the water far enough that the Bandera bullets had not reached him. Father and neighbor were murdered.
