general info

Wasiliszki

On January 9, 1944, the 4th company of the II / 77 pp. Home Army AK recaptured 30 arrested Poles near Wasiliszki. The arrests took place on January 7 and 8, 1944 in Wasiliszki (the Ukrainian military policemen then took about 50 people, 20 of whom were released, and 3 were brutally murdered). On two roads leading from Wasiliszki to Lida, ambushes were organized, in which 4 companies took part II / 77 pp. AK, mobilized field company Wasiliszki „Pastwisko”, commanded by Lieutenant J. Borewicz „Antoni” and Kedyw platoon of Center „Łąka”, commanded by Lieutenant L. Leszczyński aka Ratajski „Żala”. The convoy carrying prisoners was ambushed by the 4th company II / 77 of the Home Army on the Wasiliszki – Wawiórka road. The situation of the unit in an ambush was difficult, as the gendarmes and prisoners were mixed up in a car with trailers. During the fight, which happened, 4 Germans and 13 Ukrainian gendarmes were killed. Belarusian policemen surrendered. 6 Ukrainian gendarmes were lost (they probably died of wounds, hidden in the snow). 2 MG and 800 ammunition, 1 MP, 15 kb were seized. Own losses – 3 killed and 1 wounded (the fallen Leon Dziakiewicz „Abisyniec”, Capt. Stanisław Bury „Burzyński” and Stanisław Hryszel „Zagłoba”).
