Walawa

Excerpt from Wołodymyr Halan's account of the murder of a Ukrainian in Walawa:
One Sunday the Polish Army came to the village, searched all houses, was looking for something. They found a machine gun in the attic of their neighbors, who lived behind the road. The older son, Stepan, was taken on the spot. The younger son, Michał, fled to our house. Before the Polish soldiers, we made him our own. They took Stepan to the other end of the village, where the military headquarters had settled, and killed him”.

Walawa

Excerpt from Anna Batiuk's account of the murder of a Ukrainian in Walawa:
When the resettlement began in 1945, Polish gangs started attacking the village and murdering people  […] And so S. Iwluk went into the fields and did not come back. A week later he was found murdered in the bushes with his eyes gouged out. People returning home from Germany did not know about these bandit attacks, they became their victims. 33‑year‑old Dańko Małyk, unsuspecting anything, was returning to his home village of Walawa. He was killed just outside the village. When his sister came to bury him, she saw only torn suitcases and a pool of blood, and she did not find her brother's corpse”.
