In the village of Ustrzyki Górne, poviat Lesko, two Border Patrol Guard WOP soldiers died in a skirmish with the UPA; in mid–March, due to the threat from the UPA, lack of food and ammunition, and a cut telephone connection, the guards moved to Wetlina.
