The Ukrainians from the ULS unit, returning from the slaughter of Edwardpol and Karczunka, murdered over 30 Poles. „From this pile of trees, we could freely observe the park through the cracks in the shed wall and that is why we are eyewitnesses of everything that happened there, and it was like this: we saw that on the edge of the park, about 200 m from the shed where we were hidden, there were two Ukrainians, and our parents with them. When the Ukrainian was getting ready to shoot our dad, my dad asked: «I want to make a cross». I saw how he took off his cap and put it under his arm, and at that moment the bandit shot him in the back of the head, and Dad fell straight down. He didn't even have time to cross himself. at the same time, a second Ukrainian shot in the back of my mother's head and she too fell dead! […] When we experienced this, trembling for our own lives, we saw how they were leading our brother Stanisław for approx. 15, to the same place of execution. as these two guided him, I heard my brother pleading with them with these words: «Save my life, I will give you everything I have, my golden watch!» The bandits didn't say anything, however, and when they brought him to the bodies of his dead parents, in the same way as they shot him in the back of the head before! […] While we were sitting in this woodshed with my brother overnight, we saw many more executions of Poles in the same way by Ukrainian resuns (Eng. butchers). actually, every now and then other The Ukrainians – UPAs, brought new victims and shot them in the back of the head in cold blood. The Poles who were shot did not break away, but they left and kept bringing new ones. after a while it got a little quieter and only from time to time you could hear a few shots coming from the same park, somewhere inside. It was probably the last Polish victims of this terrible Uściłudzkiej slaughter! […] Meanwhile, as soon as the day came, brother Zdzisław left the toilet to see what was happening around him and where he could safely escape. First, however, he went to the park, where our dear parents were shot. Then he saw the body of our father and brother and the bodies of many other people. My mother told me personally after the war that some people had dug a hole shortly after the massacre, right next to the place of their execution and that all the victims were buried there. Meanwhile, my brother also met our recent Ukrainian neighbor who asked him friendly: «Did you only survive or maybe someone else saved yourself?» Then he said about me and added that I am no longer able to walk on my own legs. Then she gave him a sled to bring me back. When I got to her house, I saw my mother there, she was still alive but her condition was very serious. The bullet went into the back of the head, but it did not miraculously damage the brain and spinal cord, but on the way out, it tore my mother's jaw and severely torn the left side of her face, in short, her face was terribly mutilated, almost mutilated. It also turned out that my sister Maria and little Leokadia also survived […] On the other hand, my second sister, Maria, aged around 21. after my and my brother's escape, had terrible moments, but she stayed in the room only with Staszek, and when they came and fired them, they took her brother with them, and she pretended to be a Ukrainian. at that moment, she had Ukrainian papers with her, which our neighbor, Volodya, arranged for her, who was trying to win her hand. When the Ukrainians saw the documents, they began to research her for a long time and asked her all sides, they wanted to check if she was really a Ukrainian girl. She told me about the course of this terrible interrogation personally, and more than once, on this side of the Bug River, she said: «I had to tell them about all the most important ceremonies in the Ukrainian Church, such as weddings, baptisms and funerals. In addition, I had to say goodbye in Ukrainian, say a prayer and sing Ukrainian songs». anyway, based on what she told me, this study was long and terrible, they finally left her, but they said someone else might come over here. So Maria hid in the attic of this unfortunate tenement house, and because it was winter and frost, she caught a serious cold. Besides, she was very scared, and what she went through seriously touched her heart. When we finally got to the other side of the Bug, she lived for only two or three months and died in the hospital in Hrubieszów, where she was also buried in the cemetery […] Today I am 68 years old and my life is slowly approaching the well–deserved old age. It is my great desire that, if it will be possible in the future, I will transfer the remains of my beloved father Kazimierz Czerwaniec and brother Stanisław, as well as the remaining victims of this terrible Uściłudzka massacre to the consecrated land, to the Catholic cemetery”.
