Fragment of the memoirs of Vasyl Mazur about the murder of Ukrainians in Turzańsk by a Polish Army soldier:
„In the morning of March 15, 1946, the criminal action of the Polish Army began in the village of Turzańsk. After reaching the lower end, the Poles began to burn down the houses, throwing grenades at them […] They immediately murdered Khrushchev Mykolaj there […] Burning house after house, the Poles reached the house where Fil Wołodymyr's family lived. Together with the Prytyskacz family, she hid in a brick cellar. Polish soldiers with weapons on alert ordered everyone to leave. The first to come out was old grandfather Chwastiak Mychajło, who lived with the Prytyskacze. Then, born in 1904, Fenna Prytyskacz with her children Marija (from 1933), Hanna (from 1930) and Mykołaj (from 1928). The Poles immediately beat the old man so that he could not go. Then the Fil family came out. At that time, the Poles lined up the Prytyskacz family in a row in the meadow: the youngest daughter Marija stood next to her mother, then her brother, second sister and grandfather Mychajło. The Poles drew a machine gun and set it up in front of them. Then fired a series of shots and they all fell to the ground. One of the soldiers approached the fallen men and noticed that Nikolai opened his eyes. He pulled out a pistol and shouted:
— «You are still alive, you banderite?!»
and shot Nikolai three times. He was not meant however to die then, because the bullets passed near the right side, without touching the body […]
They took the Filas home, locked it from the outside and set it on fire. At that moment, 16‑year‑old Hryhorij Krawczyszyn ran out of the neighboring house to save the cattle from the burning stable. Upon seeing him, the Poles started shooting and murdered the boy. The Filas house was on fire. People inside screamed and cried. The fire began to penetrate inside and only now they somehow got outside. They hid and stayed alive. And the Poles went up [the village], seting fire to a house after house.
Burning a few more houses and finding no people, the Poles departed from the village. The people in hiding started to come back now. My cousin found Mykołaj Prytyskacz in the basement and together they went to those killed. Upon seeing this terrible picture, people began to cry. Someone said something out loud, and then Maria, the youngest daughter of Fenna looked up. She did not have the strength to speak, soaked in her mother's blood, she looked around her with fear. Machine gun bullets only burned her hair and dusted her face with dust”.
