The UPA tried three times to murder a German Hippolytus, each time he managed to escape, the last time from a pit he had dug for his grave; after the war he met one of his torturers in Kłodzko.

general info

Turopin

My cousin Antosia Uleryk and her family lived in the village of Turobin with a mixed Polish–Ukrainian population. Only she survived the attack during which all Poles were murdered. According to her report, The Ukrainians entered the apartment at dawn on Sunday, some of them in German uniforms and with rifles, while the rest were dressed in plain clothes and armed with axes, forks, knives and hammers. During the search for „weapons” murdered all household members – 8 people. Badly injured, Antosia fainted, and when she regained consciousness, she saw the resuns (Eng. butchers) killing the wounded. She was also hit with a bayonet several times. However, they did not hit the heart, but the hand, and she miraculously survived. Half–conscious with pain and terror, she heard the cry of her father, who, severely wounded, changed the household members one by one and begged for help. When she was sure that the torturers had left, she sat her father against the wall, she left an apartment full of dead bodies and blood and went out to see what was happening with the neighbors. She saw the bloody girl returning to the apartment to save the crying baby sister. Antosia did the same, but when she returned home, her father was already dead. Then she said goodbye to her loved ones and quickly hid in the garden, because she heard the beat of the horses. It was the Ukrainian patrol who checked the farmyard and killed those who were still alive. They killed a girl with a child, they reached her lying in hemp and almost dead because of fear they followed the tracks. They led the horses to her many times, finally one of the riders said „here” fell and when they left. Antosia decided to go to her aunt. On the way, she encountered another armed patrol. This time they were two Ukrainian friends. She knelt down in front of them and asked for her life. Just don't admit it. She owes her life to them, because they instructed her on how to get to the hospital in Włodzimierz and advised her to wait until evening. When she left her hometown forever, a macabre concert said goodbye to her – dogs howled, hungry, unmilted cows roared, horses neighed, but harmony played, and drunk Ukrainian torturers sang and played. She arrived at the hospital in the morning and after healing her wounds, she came to Bielin to Samoobrona. She lived with Bolesław Kobulski, my grandmother's brother. There I learned about her sad story. She arrived at the hospital in the morning and, having healed her wounds, came to Bielin to Samoobrona.
