Tajkury
The UPA murdered 30 Poles, going from house to house, chopping with axes and burning corpses together with buildings.
„On Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Catholic cemetery in Zdołbunów, the priest of the Zdołbunów parish, Fr Andrzej Ścisłowicz, dedicated the site chosen for the commemorative cross commemorating the inhabitants of the village of Tajkura, murdered in 1943 during the Volhynian Massacre […] a former resident of Tajkury, she gave a testimony about the events she lived through in 1943 at the cemetery.
She said that in 1943, eight coffins–chests with the remains of eight families murdered in Tajkury were buried at the cemetery in Zdołbunów […] The last priest of this parish witnessed its slow murder. He held funerals of his parishioners one by one, until his mental health seriously shook. In 1943, Tajkury, Kopytków and the surrounding villages became a place of slaughter for the Polish population (Kopytków – June 15, June 17, June 18; Nowosiółki – June 18; Stefanówka – June 19; Tajkury – April 11, 1. May, June 18 and June 28). according to the waste book of the Tajkura parish, kept by Fr Walerian Głowacz, 29 people were killed then. The last parish priest of Tajkura (from November 1939 to July 1943) was Fr Walerian Głowacz […] The raptula (rough draft) of the death book of the Tajkura parish has been preserved, in which he noted all the victims among his parishioners, who were buried in Tajkury or Zdołbunów. Next to the names of the buried parishioners, he added: «murdered by bandits or murdered by the Ukrainians». In July 1943, broken and ill, he left Tajkura, going to Zdołbunów. Later he was a priest in Nowogród Wołyński.

I developed this list in the early years. 90 of the 20th century at the request of Mr. Romuald Wernik, who published it in a modified form in his book: Romuald Wernik, «Tajkury – a village that was a town», London, 1997. a copy of the book of baptisms and deaths of the Tajkura parish from 1939– 1943 received Fr prof. Waldemar Witold Żurek SDB, who published the information contained therein in his monumental work entitled «Lists of people from the parish files of the Lutsk diocese until 1945» (vol. VI, Lublin 2010, pp. 1105–1128). This was done to facilitate access to the archival book documenting the martyrdom of the Polish nation in Volhynia. We prayed many times for these victims in Zdołbunowo, Ostrog and Tajkury themselves. During the funeral services, we read the list of those murdered in Tajkury and its vicinity. To Tajkur in the 90s In the 1980s, we also organized a pilgrimage twice on August 10 from Ostroh and Zdołbunów. These pilgrimages were attended, among others, by clerics from Krakow: Piotr Janczy, Bolesław Karcz, Stanisław Molendys and Waldemar Szlachta. It was so until the SBU and the Dean, Fr Władysław Czajka from Rivne, who suggested not to make noise around Tajkury. So it was worth organizing these unwelcome pilgrimages in the early 1990s…”.

Scouts from Zdołbunów and young people from Poland have recently started tidying up the former Catholic cemetery and the church itself in Tajkury. Fr andrzej Ścisłowicz with parishioners in Zdołbunów cherishes the memory of innocent people murdered in Tajkury and the surrounding area. so it was worth organizing these unwelcome pilgrimages in the early 1990s ”…
