Stydyń Wielki
The Banderites murdered a Polish family. August 21, 1943 near the village of Balarka, county Lutsk Banderites captured the 3–person Polish Szpringel family: a mother with two sons. „In a few minutes we are watching – they are circling this grove, and the one who saw us leads two Banderites towards us, rifles aimed at us. Me, Mom and brother get down on our knees and ask them not to kill us. We kiss the legs, they push away, they say to go with them to the car. We came out of this grove, and they were there like ants, and women [and] children. They look at us as a phenomenon – I don't know what we [we] looked like. They put us on a cart and drive us to the colonel in the village of Rudnia. We pass the school and the ruins of the church [in Huta]. These Banderites tell us that [many] Poles were killed here, these bodies were covered up so provisionally. He will take us to this staff, jed [e] n went, from those who caught us, to get the colonel. And the three of us stand and cry […] A tall Ukrainian is sitting at the table, he is the chief commander. We immediately grab his legs and hands, kiss him, ask him to spare us our life, and if not, let them shoot [us] instead of murdering us […] [He goes on to say that] if fate has so put us [us] in [his] hands, [then] we will remain [in] Duży Studziny. He will leave me close to the blacksmith, I will graze the cows, and my mother and brother will be with his mother–in–law, [there] you have to help on the farm […] I have not written how many days we have wandered in this steelworks. The whole leader of this union (his name was Piotr), he himself was surprised that we lived [we] 34 days in such conditions, [eating] nothing cooked, or bread, only peas, carrots, sometimes an apple, and water from rain […] When we were in the Duży Studziny (in Ukrainian this village may sound different), there was [there] a Pole with his family who was looking for water and digging wells. Two weeks [more] was alive when we were already there. Then we learn that” was murdered with his family.
