In May 1943, in the village of Borowe, the Orthodox clergyman Mykhailo Symonowycz blessed the UPA in the church courtyard and blessed the tools of their crime before his expedition to the Polish villages of Rudnia Lwa and Staryki.

About 600 UPA and Ukrainian peasants from the neighboring villages of Czabel, Jasnogórka, and Wyry slaughtered 90–150 Poles. They murdered in a sadistic way: they torn small children by their feet, put them on pegs or threw them into burning houses. „The last group to liquidate the village were women and children who robbed, gathered livestock for kidnapping and set fire to” buildings.

My aunt Honorata Jasińska and her two children were stabbed with a pitchfork in the Dąbrowa cottage. Neighbor Apolonia Grabowska was also stabbed with a pitchfork, she was in an advanced state of pregnancy and she could not escape. Ms. Mierzejewska's teacher and her 14‑year‑old son Henryk were hanged upside down on a tree, they cut off body parts and gouged out their eyes.

Jadwiga Bogdanowa reports that about 150 Poles were murdered in Staryki that day. „I witnessed the attack of the UPA gang on the village of Staryki on May 29, 1943  […] The inhabitants expected an attack, they were prepared to escape at any moment. My grandmother's brother Antoni Garbowski played a great role in defending the inhabitants, who had a weapon (probably a submachine gun) and stopped the attackers for the time needed to escape. However, many inhabitants (about 150 people according to my grandparents) died in the fire, mainly old people and children  […] The attacking unit was called by my grandparents 'bulbachy', maybe from Taras Bulba. I also remember the nickname of one of the attackers' leaders – Huk”.

In June 1943, in the church in Siedliszcze, the instruments of the murder were consecrated by the Orthodox clergyman Kałynowski: axes, scythes, bayonets, etc. During a solemn ceremony attended by commander of Bulbowski militias of various rank, Hryhoryj Prymak was promoted for his services in the liquidation of the village of Staryki.
