general info

Słobódka Muszkatowiecka

[The Ukrainians] murdered 34 Poles, including a family of 3 (parents and an 8—month—old daughter), poured over with gasoline and burned alive; the following people died: Czubak Łucja, 4, Kaleka Franciszek, 16, Posyniak N, 2, Popielowa Józefa, 60, Kaleka Piotr, 45, Kurpisz Mikołaj, 55, his wife Michalina, 50, son Józef aged 16, Latusz Piotr aged 50, his wife Michalina aged 35, their daughter Lidia aged 8, Posyniak Joanna aged 40, Posyniak Wiktoria aged 50, Wandowicz Paulina aged 38, her daughter Stanisława aged 7, Wyszyński Izydor aged 17, Wyszyńska Jadwiga aged 18, Ziobrowska Maria aged 50 (seriously injured), Ziobrowska Michalina aged 60, Ziobrowski N. 2, Posyniak Franciszek aged 50, his wife Eugenia aged 45, Posyniak Zuzanna, 10, Posyniak Maria, 7. „A few of them went to the barn to bring straw. They threw lighted beams through the broken window and the open door into the apartment. They stood around the house with their guns ready to fire and laughed as they expected «Lachy» to burn in the fire. The fire spread quickly through the apartment. There was a risk of death in flames or suffocation by smoke. In this situation, I made a decision to run away. I ran out of the house and ran straight into a few Banderites who caught me. One of them said: «For that Pole the bullet is a waste, it will be best if we throw him into fire». They knocked me down, grabbed my legs and hands, trying to throw me into the burning house. I struggled for a while, bit their hands, but it didn't do much. They pushed me into a burning building by force  […] My mother also tried to run away from the house, took her daughter Stasia in her arms and tried to jump out of the window with her, however, she was noticed, the Bandera fired at her, fatally wounding her. Stasia fell from her hands and hung on the window sill, shouting loudly. The genocide also shot her. I stayed in the apartment with Grandma Wiktoria. The fire and smoke grew more and more bothersome. I grabbed my grandmother's hand and told her to run away. There was only one escape route left, through the door of the hall under a cover of smoke to escape into the field and further into the forest. Banderites were standing around the house, laughing loudly and talking «How those Lachies/Poles are frying in hellish fire!». We were trapped. It was impossible to get outside. We lay down in the hallway near the chimneys, pretending to be dead. Fire and smoke passed this place. The initiative was taken over by my grandmother who prayed all the time and told me to pray. She believed that God would save us. So we slept until the morning. after the murderers were gone, we left our half—burned house. We survived”.
