Sambor
Jerzy Sękiewicz: „Sixteen and a half”, reports: „Father Franciszek, the permanent secretary at the District Court in Sambor, was murdered by the Ukrainians in the city street on August 31, 1944 – he was then 38 years old. Like me, he graduated from the Junior High School in Jarosław in 1929 and then studied law at the University of Jan Kazimierz in Lviv. Traces and memory of the war and the times of occupation have remained with me to this day, because apart from Sambor, during the occupation, I stayed in Oleszyce and my father's family estate near Rawa Ruska, and these were the areas of many fierce and cruel, terrible fights and frequent changes of occupiers and borders. The boy I was in the war years saw people murdering each other for no reason – maybe just because they sometimes speak a different language. Sleepless nights on the roof of a wooden church in the area of Rawa Ruska, when the Banderites were prowling the village, and in many places there were murders, fires stayed somewhere in me and sometimes they return. UPA gangs murdered Poles only because they were Poles in a cruel way, and I associate the Bandera followers with the” bandits until today.
