Rokitnica

The massive influx of refugees to Zasmyki caused the village to lack food and animal feed – recalls Monika Śladowska. – We were especially bothered by the lack of potatoes. So we decided to organize an expedition to the field near Rokytnice to collect potatoes with the girls who lived in grandma's house. When we started digging, suddenly someone started shooting at us from a nearby grove! Instinctively, we fell into furrows, and then we started to run. UPA patrols constantly circled in the area of Zasmyki. They were observed and murdered by people who individually dared to appear in the field or on the communication route. With us there was such a wagon Siemiński, but he did not run away. Perhaps he did not want to leave the horses and the Bandera followers caught him. When we got to my grandmother's house, Siemiński's wife began to despair. They had five children and were refugees from Voronny. While escaping from it, they managed to take out some things on a ladder cart. Siemińska was constantly going out on the road to check if her husband was coming. Self–defense members immediately went to the field and soon brought Siemiński. His head and fingers were severed. The torturers wanted to take off his wedding ring, and because she did not want to get off his finger, they cut it off, chopping off the rest of his fingers.
