Prehoryłe

At dawn, the raid was carried out by soldiers of the SS–Galizien (5th SS Police Regiment), with the participation of Ukrainian policemen, „ortschutz” and OUN–UPA militias from Szychowice, Kryłów and Gołębia. First, they circled the village in a tight ring, and then cruelly murdered the Polish population. 38 people were killed, including children, women and the elderly. The soldiers of Stanisław Basaj „Rysia” and Jan Ochman „Kozak”, rushed to help the pacified population. After heavy fights, the Ukrainian nationalists were driven out of the colony, leaving the bodies of the murdered Polish inhabitants. „On March 8, 1944 at dawn, units of the Ukrainian police, SS–Galizien and ortschutz, supported by subunits of the USN from Szychowice, Kryłów and Gołębia, attacked the Prehoryłe colony, county hrubieszowski; a UPA unit took part in the robbery, who moved across the Bug River at night. Whole families were murdered (for example, the Martyniuk, Bolechów, and Przzynów families), 38 people in total, including women and children”.
