Potok Złoty
— „I have respect and goodwill towards young Ukrainians who learn languages in Poland and work for their better future” — says Irena Kalita. — „But I do not forget that their grandparents planned and committed the atrocious crime”.
— […] Let me ask you about your family memories related to the crimes in Volhynia…
— „The most difficult experience was the death of my father, who was beaten in his backyard, in Potok Złoty. Not in July, but in November, but also by Ukrainian nationalists. He did not die on the spot, because Poles came to his aid, but in the end this attack cost him his life. My sister and I looked at it through the window pane. Mom didn't know what to do. She was afraid to let us go, because she knew that we would run to our father and risk our lives as well, and by watching over us, she could not save him herself. Despite the years that have passed, I have tears in my eyes for every memory of that day […] We never talked about it”.
— As a child, you were at your dad's funeral, and as an adult — in free Poland — you went to find this place.
— „And this is another painful experience. When I found my father's grave for the first time — in the late 1990s, there was a wooden cross on it. Next year, I went back to arrange a memorial with some local foreman. Unfortunately, the cross was no longer there. The grave disappeared and so did the trace of my father”.
