Polchowa

The UPA robbed and burned Polish farms and murdered 5 Poles: a woman and a family of 4; the Ukrainians tied their victims with barbed wire and threw them alive into the fire.
On September 28, 1946, OUN–UPA activists attacked the non–existent village of Polchowa in the commune of Dubiecko. The 14‑person Wawrzek family was burnt alive at that time. One of the people who survived the bloody murder in the village that no longer exists today was 11‑year‑old Tomasz Blecharczyk. In his memoirs about the murder in Polchowa, he wrote in the weekly 'Przegląd'. On September 28, 1946, the 14‑person Wawrzek family died at the hands of the Banderites: They surrounded houses and burned the inhabitants alive. Before the burial, a huge box with the remains of the burnt victims was displayed in the Dubiecko cemetery as a proof of the UPA's bestiality. I went there with my father to find out what the nationalists from the OUN–UPA were capable of. For someone who has not seen this chest with human remains with his own eyes, it is not easy to believe today this macabre image of the victims of human bestiality. Ukrainian nationalists modeled themselves on the Nazi genocide and often outdistanced the Nazis in their methods of operation, especially in sophisticated forms of torture, as many as there are days in a year. The mass grave of these victims exists in the Dubiecka cemetery. This topic has been raised many times by historians. Among the murders committed by the Bandera followers in 1946 in Polchowa, there is also the case of the murder in which the Tereszczak family fell victim to the murder at that time. They were tied to a tree with barbed wire, they were all set on fire alive, and then thrown into the San”.
