Polanka
„The Ukrainian partisans” murdered a Polish family of three: they murdered the sick father at home, they took their 1‑year‑old son and 17‑year‑old daughter into the forest. „When my mother opened the apartment, Kowalowa, our neighbor from the time when we lived in Polana, entered the apartment. She looked ghostly or mad. At first she couldn't utter a word, then she walked into the corner of the apartment and kept saying «hide me». Only after some time did she tell that two days ago the UPA band had entered her house and murdered her sick husband, while her 17‑year‑old daughter and one‑year‑old son were taken to the forest. At that time, Kowalowa was in the yard and when she saw the Banderites walking, she hid in a haystack and witnessed the tragedy of her family. It happened a few days after the Germans had escaped from Lviv and Polanka and Lviv had been seized by the Soviet army. Polanka was about 17 km from Lviv. Two days after the Banderites attack, the NKVD found the body of Natalka and her little brother in the forest. Natalka had a cut belly into which a dead boy was placed. After this murder, Kowalowa escaped on foot to Lviv and came to our house”.
