general info

Płaucza Wielka

The Banderites and Ukrainian peasants from nearby villages murdered 106 Poles and 6 Ukrainians, from a 3–month–old bayonet–stabbed child to the elderly, using axes, knives, bayonets, etc.: they cut off their heads, ripped their bellies, threw the wounded into burning buildings. The Institute of National Remembrance in Wrocław determined (file number S 48/01 / Zi) that the attack took place on March 28, 1944. Several local The Ukrainians were identified among the attackers. The attackers murdered the Poles with axes, hammers and bayonets, and the escaping ones were shot at. The perpetrators also massively plundered property and then burned down Polish houses. The attack lasted about four hours. Thanks to Ignacy Muszyński, who broke away from the torturers and ran screaming through the village, he managed to warn many people who had left their homes and hid. Some Poles received help from their Ukrainian neighbors. The victims of the attack were also Ukrainian Pryhods from mixed families who were killed together with wives of Polish nationality. Piotr Iwaśka's wife, a Pole, and children were murdered, and he was left alive. After the attack, the Wełyszny family of three were killed for criticizing the UPA. The Institute of National Remembrance gives the number of 70 victims.
