The UPA robbed Polish farms and burned them down, and when the Polish defense collapsed, they murdered over 30 Poles. „On October 15, 1943, a large group of UPA militia from Volhynia, supported by local Bandera followers, attacked Polish farms, plundered and destroyed them, and murdered the Poles living there. The commander of our self–defense, «Szklanny», was wounded in both legs and captured by the Bandera followers. The torturers tied him to a telegraph pole next to our house, and tied his bloody legs with straw braids, then poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. Burning with a piercing voice, he begged Heaven for death and cursed his executioners, while they sipped the moonshine, mocked the suffering of the victim and laughed loudly. Then the UPA who prayed together every morning and sang: «Good God, Only God». They broke into the local «Latin» chapel, standing in the shade of the thousand‑year‑old linden trees, and desecrated the holy place. They removed the impoverished possessions of the chapel: chasubles, surplice and chalices. Some of them were distributed to village girls. The image of the Mother of God, torn out of the gilded frames, was trampled on, and the frame was taken and used in the church for the image of the «Ukrainian Mother of God»”.
