Ostrów
Excerpt from M. Moczyła's account of the murder of Ukrainians in Ostrów by Polish neighbors:
„Our parents with two younger sons lived in the village of Ostrów near Przemyśl. In April 1945, local Polish chauvinists attacked my parents' house at night and shot them all. Me and my two sisters were not at home then, and therefore we were left alive. When the attackers broke down windows and doors, our relatives hid in the attic. From there they shouted for help. This scream and shots from automatic weapons warned 5 more Ukrainian families who had managed to hide in the gardens and faced the same death. On that tragic night, [Polish chauvinists] killed Ivan Fedkowycz Moczyła (born in 1878), who was my father, my mother Kateryna Moczyło (born in 1888) and two brothers — Wołodymyr (born in 1929) and Petra (born in 1932)”.
