Witness Eugenia Wiktoriwna Kropewniuk (born 1933, née Kmin): „When they started beating Poles, we had a Pole in one colony. Theophilus his name as I remember now. Their family was great. Four children, a husband, wife and his mother. and as it is in the times of Poland, there was such an organization here, said «yacheika» (cell). And here in this «yacheika» my father was a secretary. There were many people in our house, men were coming. There were a lot of them. This «yacheika» the Poles detected, so as not to put them in prison, because it was still in Poland, at the end of Poland, they sent them to america. They sent a lot of people to america. Poles of The Ukrainians sent to america, go and protest there. among other things, they were dismissing my father there. This Theophilus vouched for his father and the father stayed here on the spot. When the war started, the Poles started beating up, this Teofil and his family came to see my father so that my father would hide them. Those were the years when there was Ukraine, there were insurgents here, they were all in the forest. and there was no forest in Usmogowce, they were – insurgents, home. There was a headquarters in our house. It was impossible to say: «I won't accept you, because». and there was a staff in the neighboring house, there were these chiefs, already insurgents. When this Theophilus came to ask his father to keep him, his father could not refuse him. He saved my father from america. There were insurgents in the house, and in the pigsty, where there were animals, there was hay on the elevations, and there, in that hay, my father made such a hut. They were there [Polish family]. The whole family had to be fed so that they [the insurgents] would not see at home, otherwise it is the end and the end for my father. as if the mother would bring the pigs food, she would prepare soups or borscht. He will take it in a bucket and carry it. and they served them food from the pigsty. and how, one time my father found out that they were all going to Rywuszka here. There were them. some meeting. I was tiny, he wasn't afraid to [speak in front of me]. They left the whole family like this, from the pigsty. Клуня [Old Greek – a small building in which sheaves were dried before threshing] and тік [old–learning. – a small plot of land, leveled and fenced next to the clown, where sheaves of grain were threshing] as if. On тік. and so they talked and they talked. His father says to him: «Teofil». To Nowy Dwór, there was, Poles wanted to go to Kupiczów, because their collection was there. There is only one road to Nowy Dwór. On this and the other side of the road there was a quagmire, otherwise it was impossible to get out, this is the only way to go to Nowy Dwór, then to Kupiczów. My father says: «Manifak is on duty» – such a man was with us –«He will not beat you. Where is one like him going to beat you? It is you who will go that way». Grandma stayed with the older girl, and the husband and wife and three children left. If they pass, then Grandma will also go and catch up with them. But you can hear the shooting – «Pakh! Pakh!» Five times. and five of them were walking: three children and two of them. This man, Manifak, killed these Poles. and Grandma stayed with that girl. She stayed with us a little longer and then moved on to other people. It was spring. Somewhere in the hemp she sat all summer, and then somehow they took them in Kupiczów to the Poles. This was the whole story”.
