Orżew
The Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Ukrainian peasants from the surrounding villages, dressed in white masking sheets, attacked Polish refugees gathered in Zakłady Orżewskie, a plywood factory on the Horyń River. The Poles tried to escape to the railway station 6 km away. Whoever the Ukrainians caught, was tortured and killed, whole families died. Those who remained in the factory were burned alive. That night, they murdered over 50 Poles, mainly women, children and the elderly.
