general info

Nowaki

Jakub Brzozowski, former soldier of Piłsudski's legions, was murdered by Ukrainians: „After warnings from the Pieczończyk family, we left Nowaki to go to a safe place, i.e. where the Germans were stationed. On the way to the railway station in Włodzimierz, we were stopped in the forest by a group of several Ukrainians. They said they were UPA and began to search the wagon we were driving for weapons. Even though we didn't have any weapons, some of them took Dad to the woods and that was the last time I saw him. One of the Ukrainians stayed with us to guard. Mom told our children to run away, and she pleaded with him for mercy, falling to her knees. The Ukrainian ordered us to give ourselves the food we had with us and said that they would catch us all anyway. We managed to escape when the Ukrainian became interested in food. We got to the railroad tracks and along them to the train station. After some time our mom arrived there, we were very happy”.
