The UPA attacked the Poles who took refuge in the church and defended them for several days, cut off from food and water. When their ammunition was low, they lowered one man, who had brought self–defense help from Antonówka Szepelska at the last moment; 45 Poles left, some stayed. The UPA murdered 30 Poles in the village, and in January 1944 they burnt the interior of the church from 1612–1618.
