Muszkatowce (Muszkatówka)
The Banderites dressed in the uniforms of Soviet soldiers arrested 6 Poles, took a Ukrainian to their apartment, stripped him naked, tortured, burned with fire, pulled out his nails and cut with knives; Finally, they dragged them into the forest and shot dead: 2 men and 3 women, one survived severely wounded. „In December 1944, around On 15th, an UPA sub–unit dressed in Soviet uniforms entered the village, pretending to be a field gendarmerie, and kidnapped 6 villagers, including: Gożdżałowa, Krawczyński, Sydomia Kruszwicka, Piotr Posyniak, Jan Tesarowski and me, who was the only survivor of the entire group. We were all taken to the apartment of a local Ukrainian, where a court was held over us. We were led into a large chamber, where the six–person judge panel of The Ukrainians was already sitting at the table. It was chaired by Paweł Matyjaszczuk, alias «Dorosz». at his command, we were stripped naked, our arms and legs were tied with barbed wire, and sliding lines were placed around our necks. Every slightest movement of his hands tightened the noose around his neck. In this position, the torturers interrogated us. During this time, we were beaten on our backs with sticks, our nails were torn out with pliers, and the skin on the body was cut with a knife. Chairman Matyjaszczuk personally burned the victims' bodies with the fire of a candle. If the tortured person lost consciousness, the torturers poured cold water over him and tortured him again. I was half alive from pain and exhaustion. I hardly felt anything anymore. Then Matyjaszczuk said, pointing to my person, give me this bird. The candle flame began to burn my hands. I felt a searing, excruciating pain seeping through my body. Through clenched teeth I said: Paweł! What have I done wrong to you in my life? Why are you subjecting me to such torments? I did not receive an answer. Matyjaszczuk continued to move the candle flame over my fingers and hands. I passed out. When I retrieved it, I was lying on the ground in a pool of blood mixed with water among the rest of the victims. In the vestibule of the chamber, I heard Matyjaszczuk giving the order to the commander of the execution group. He ordered us to be taken to the forest and shot there. I was then aware of the end of our lives. I began to pray fervently. In my spirit I was begging God for salvation, saying – Lord God, You can do everything. I was saying prayers all the way. Finally, the sleigh stopped. We were unloaded and thrown like logs at the place of execution. Faced to the ground. The execution started. One of the tormentors came up to me and shot me in the back in the vicinity of the heart. The bullet entered the collarbone area, without breaking bones. My desire to live dictated my behavior. I shuddered hard after the shot and then stopped, consciously holding my breath. Lying on the ground, I heard the group commander give the orders: «You two will stay here for an hour. If any of them show signs of life, it should be finished off with». after what seemed like an eternity to me, the sentries left. Somehow I was able to free my arms and legs from their bonds. I only checked if any of the shot were alive. Unfortunately, they were all dead. Bleeding out and completely exhausted, I trudged up to my sister's pen. She dressed my wounds, put on makeshift dressings and the next day drove me to the hospital in Borszczów. I was treated for several months. Despite the strenuous efforts of Polish doctors, I never regained my full fitness in my hands, after the burning received from the hands of «Pawlo Matyjaszczuk, the judge»”.
