Majdan Stary

Greek Catholic Easter – the Bandera followers murdered 33 Poles, whole families; the mother and daughter were burnt alive in the barn. „My father was from Maidan Stary, Radziechów district. I have found two lists of inhabitants of the village of Majdan Stary who were murdered during the described time. One of them is the list compiled by Bronisław Jasiński and the other one compiled by Jan Jasiński. Uncle Bronek's list includes the following surnames: 1. Baran Piotr, 51; 2. Bakuliński Mikołaj, 48; 3. Bakulinska (burned alive); 4. Długosz Władysław, aged 48; 5. Gawlicki Michał, 62 years old; 6. Jasiński Michał, 52; 7. Jasińska Maria, 42; 8. Jasińska Stanisława, age 16; 9. Krzyszpin Edward, age 10; 10. Łukomowski Jan, 45; 11. Pańczuk Bronisław, 34 years old; 12. Pikulska Władysława in the 60s; 13. Pikulski Władysław (son) aged 34; 14. Pikulski Mikołaj, age 36; 15. Ożga Michał, 40; 16. Ożga Ludwik, 34 years old; 17. Ożga Kazimierz, 45 years old; 18. Ożga Edward, age 16; 19. Turowski Jan, 52; 20. Wiśniowski Jan, 44; 21. Zubuński, 38. This list is supplemented by letters written to my father, which also include: 1. Wiśniowski Jacek; 2. Sacharka Balij; 3. J. Trochimczaków.
Arrested and murdered for being owed to the Home Army and for possessing weapons: 1. Bakuliński Bronisław; 2. Buczkiewicz, Michał; 3. Gawlicki Józef (for having a gun); 4. Jasinski Kazimierz; 5. Blacksmith Jan (for having a gun)

H. Komański et Sz. Siekierka  […] date the UPA raid on Maidan Stary on April 23, 1944; among the 32 reported by them, not all of the above–mentioned names.

Myrosław Onyszkewycz „Orest Karat” gave the order: „I order you to purge your area immediately from the Polish element and Ukrainian–Bolshevik agents. The purge should be carried out in riverside hostels sparsely populated by Poles. To this end, create a militia near the area, composed of our members, whose task would be to eliminate the above–mentioned. Our larger hostels will be cleared of this element by our military units even in broad daylight  […] The clearing of the area must be completed before our Easter so that we can celebrate it without Poles. Remember that when the Bolsheviks find us with Poles in our territory, they will slaughter us all  […] Make a hard, ruthless fight with them. Not to spare anyone, even in mixed marriages. To take Lachs out of their houses, but The Ukrainians and children in these houses should not be liquidated  […] Get the gun. Death to the Poles. Stop, April 6, 1944. Glory to the heroes! Orest, Karat” This order is in the files of the investigation against Myroslav Onyshhevych.
