Magierów

The Kruczek family of four lived in Magierów – county Rawski, voivodeship Lviv. The married couple Jan and Bronisław and their two children, Anna and Bronisław, led a peaceful and prosperous life. In the spring of 1944, when the Banderites' attacks on Polish villages and towns began in the area, they were warned by a Ukrainian woman and decided to flee to a safer place with members of her extended family. The decision to leave was made by Ms Bronisława with her children – Jan Kruczek remained in the family home, declaring that there was nothing to be afraid of as he had never done anything wrong to any Ukrainian. Shortly after the departure of his wife and children, the Bandera followers captured Jan and forced him to dig his own grave. They then cut off his tongue and then mutilated almost his entire body. This was witnessed by a Soviet soldier.
