general info

Łuka Mała

Please complete the list of victims murdered in the borderlands with the name of my grandfather, who was brutally murdered by the Banderites on Good Friday in 1945 in the village of Łuka Mała, Skałat district, a few days before the liberation. My grandfather was Stefan Okoński, born in 1904, he lived in Łuka Mała with his wife Stefania and three children. During the war he was a partisan, he belonged to „Istriebitielnyj Battalion”. From the stories of the late Stefania Okońska, Stefan's wife and my grandmother, I know that my grandfather was hanged upside down and burned alive. He himself wore straw for his arson. The Banderites who did this came from the same village and shortly afterwards was killed by the Polish partisans. Grandma was hiding with her children in an underground hideout and was a silent witness of her grandfather's death. She and her children were also searched for murder. Soon she managed to leave for Poland with the children. After the war, the graves of the murdered were moved to different places. In the end, Stefan Okoński most likely rests anonymously in the park at the monument to a soldier with a vending machine in Grzymałów – 18 km from Łuka Mała.
