Łazy

Polish translation of the information by Myron Łozowski about the murder of Ukrainians in the village of Łazy, included in the collection „Jarosław and Beyond the Sun river regions” from 1986:
Attacks by Polish militias and the Polish Army on the inhabitants of Łazy were initially sporadic. Civil gang attacks, the so–called forest areas were predatory and took place mainly at night. When the displacement action began, numerous and well–armed bands of Poles, often with Soviet 'instructors', also came to Łazy during the day. Total destruction took place on Easter Saturday 1945. In the morning the parish priest, Fr Ilya Łewycki with his assistant, Fr Ewyn, they held a service in the church. A large Polish gang broke into. The members of this pack, equipped with automatic weapons, surrounded the village. Part of the gang broke into the church and, beating people, began to drive them outside, where they stripped off their Christmas clothing. The other group would go from cabin to cabin, taking anything of value. At the same time, they destroyed equipment, knocked pictures of saints from the walls, broke windows and overturned bowls with Easter cake. Wołodymyr Mańczak s. Jakyma died that day. Łazy was completely ruined. Such attacks by Polish bandits took place earlier, when Poles shot all young people one by one”.
