Kustycze
The UPA murdered the representative of the Polish Government Delegate in Volhynia, Lieutenant Sigismud Ruml („Krzysztof Poręba”), and a representative of the Home army, Lieutenant Krzysztof Markiewicz and their coachman Witold Dobrowolski, who held talks with the UPA command in the village of Wołczak, county Włodzimierz Wołyński. The Polish parliamentarians were torn apart by the Bandera followers and their bodies were cut to pieces. „On July 9, 1943 in the evening, at the contact point in Budy Ossowskie, Lieutenant Sigismud Rumel, Second Lieutenant Krzysztof Makiewicz, platoon officer of Officer Cadet Wacław Kopczyński – a resident of Bud Ossowskie, and antoni Kazimierski – a resident of the Brodyszcze colony, determined that on the next day, July 10, the following officers: Rumel and Markiewicz at the behest of the government delegate in London, Kazimierz Banach «Linowski», they will go as a delegation to negotiations with representatives of the Ukrainian side. The assumed goal of the Polish delegation was open and unambiguous – to stop and respond to the murders and extermination of the Polish population by the OUN–UPa. as well as considering the subject of agreements and the will of the Polish and Ukrainian sides in the joint struggle against Nazi Germany. Delegates: Sigismud Rumel and Krzysztof Markiewicz will go in full uniforms of Polish officers for the scheduled talks to Kustycze. The horses will be driven by Witold Dobrowolski, an inhabitant of Kowalówka, neighboring antoni Kazimierski, with whom the above–mentioned officers will stay for the night. On that night, July 9–10, officers will be insured by antoni and Henryk Kata with handguns. according to these arrangements, my brother antek and I had So we insured the officers – delegates all night until 7 am, until the departure with Witold Dobrowolski. On that day in the morning, my brother Władysław went with Wacław Kopczyński, aka «Sokól», to Włodzimierz Wołyński and to Ustroń nad Bugiem. In Ustyluh in the afternoon the news reached the contact point that two Polish officers and a carter were brutally murdered in Kustycze by the OUN–UPa. They were Lieutenant Rumel, Second Lieutenant Markiewicz and Witold Dobrowolski, horse driver. The news about the killing of our delegation by the OUN–UPA in Kustycze was shocking, it was something like from the Genghis Khan period. We gave up even the faint hope that we would be able to join the Ukrainians in a common struggle against one enemy at that time, which was fascism, and if not, then at least tolerate one another, and not wear it out, which was rubbed by both fascists and communists”.

Krzysztof Markiewicz went with Sigismud Ruml, because he had known personally from his school days the commandant of the UPA Security Service, who was Szabatura in this area. After the war, Szabatura was the head of the Security Office in Szprotawa, Lower Silesia, under an assumed name.
