Kurzany

The Bandera followers murdered 8 Polish families of at least 24 people on the estate and burned 70 Polish farms in the village and murdered 20 Poles, including 10 children; at least 44 Poles in total; in this town, the Home Army intelligence received an order from the UPA command: „to expedite the liquidation of Poles, to cut down the trunk, burn purely Polish villages, mixed villages – to destroy only the Polish population”.
Others: Grzegorz Hryciak: UPA actions against Poles after the re–occupation of Volhynia and Eastern Galicia by the Red army in 1944. In: anti–Polish action of the OUN–UPA 1943 – 1944. Facts and interpretations. Warsaw 2002, states: „On August 15 (according to other data on August 14) 1944, the Ukrainian «self–defense unit» burned down the village of Kurzany (Brzeżany county) and the nearby farm, where a collective farm was organized. Of the 33 households, 31 were burned, and fifteen people died, including five women”.
