Kożuszne
In the village of Kożuszne, poviat Sanok, about 60 soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces died in an ambush of the UPA, some of them were hacked with axes after surrendering. The attackers were from 'Rena' gang (kuren unit), numbering around 500 UPA. The Poles were saved from total extermination by a raging snowstorm, which shielded the escape in small groups. When the next day, with two battalions, the commander of 34 Infantry Regiment Lt. Col. Pluta arrived at the place of the fight — he saw a terrifying sight: the village of Kożuszne in the ruins, on the ground ashes, blood and bodies of the fallen. Some of them had their heads broken with axes, their arms and legs were chopped off, and their eyes were even gouged out with bayonets.
