general info
Kaszyce
A group of a dozen or so Ukrainian policemen and several Ukrainian nationalists from neighboring villages under the command of 1 Gestapo officer, 1 German gendarme and the commander of the Ukrainian police in Radymno, Włodzimierz Janusz, shot 119 Poles from house to house, for contacting the village with the Home Army AK and BCh. „Investigation of the Institute of National Remembrance, ref. No. S 43/05 / Zn – in the case of a Nazi crime, which was also a crime against humanity, committed by unidentified German officials and people coming to the hand of the German state, through the murder on March 7, 1943 in Kaszyce of the Jarosław county, of at least 117 people […] The findings of the investigation show that the crimes in Kaszyce were perpetrated by a dozen or so armed detachments, which included the perpetrators who spoke Polish, German and Ukrainian, dressed inconsistently: in civilian clothes and uniforms, but without the possibility of obtaining a description that would allow for a more precise determination of the uniforms. Some perpetrators in civilian clothes tried to hide their actual appearance (disguise, masked faces). The randomness of the victims and the fact that the perpetrators did not use any documents, but by questioning the inhabitants' identity, tried to give their actions the appearance of legality. Numerous witnesses indicated a participant in the crime known in Kaszyce as «anton». He was seen as a participant in the actions, or his participation was heard. In the period preceding the crime in Kaszyce, the person so described by the witnesses as a gendarmerie officer participated in arrests and interviews. From the testimonies of witnesses questioned in the course of investigations in the crimes in Rokietnica and Czelaton, it appears that «anton» or anton H., also known in these places, corresponds to «anton» known in Kaszyce, according to the accounts of witnesses. The path of the perpetrators' march, as well as the same method of operation, testify to the participation of anton H. both in the murders of Poles in Rokietnica, where he was identified beyond any doubt, and earlier in the killings in Kaszyce. The collected evidence allowed for the conclusion that the perpetrators of the crimes in Kaszyce were both German officials and people acting in favor of the authorities of the German state. The event under investigation was also assessed in the category of crimes against humanity, taking into account the course and size of the crime prepared and committed by an armed military formation implementing a policy of extermination of the Polish population. The investigation in this case was completed on November 9, 2007. issuing a decision to discontinue it, because it was established that one of the perpetrators taking part in the Kaszyce crime – anton H., died. With regard to the remaining persons who committed this crime, due to the lack of their personal data, documents, and personal sources of evidence that could identify them, the investigation was discontinued due to the failure to identify the perpetrators of the crime”.

The Institute of National Remembrance does not mention the main perpetrators of the crimes, who were Ukrainian policemen, but uses the phrase: „people helping the German state”. He doesn't even mention „Anton H”'s nationality. It was Anton Jarka, s/o Teodor Jarek, a Greek Catholic parish priest from Pełnatyn.
